ESNS is the most renowned showcase festival for new and emerging European artists. It is with our great pleasure that this year ESNS will welcome three exceptional Slovak live acts: Nina Kohout, Adela Mede and 52 Hertz Whale.

Please, let us invite you to their shows at ESNS 2023 in Groningen. Join us at their concerts.

Nina Kohout
Where: Thursday 19th JAN | Forum Rabostudio | 20:30 – 21:10

Nina Kohout is 19 year-old Slovakian artist who studies music production at The BRIT School in London. Her music connects the eerie atmosphere of ancient Slovak folklore, classical music elements, and the freshness of an innovative trip-hop. She has created her own timeless, rather strange, and anarchic musical world, for which she won an award for Newcomer of the Year 2020 by Slovak national radio. The song ‘Moonlight’, from her debut EP ‘Pandemonium’ was featured as the Song of the Day by KEXP Radio.

52 Hertz Whale
Where: Friday 20th JAN | Mutua Fides | 20:45 – 21:30

Bratislava-based band whose music is ferocious and melancholic, streaked with vigour and impatience. With two releases under their belt the band has toured in Slovakia, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Britain and The Czech Republic. They gained a fervent underground following, thanks to their cathartic gigs, and operate in the wastelands between post-punk and noise rock. 2022 brought the new album ‘Present Sense Impression’ and a European tour.

Adela Mede
Where: Friday 20th JAN | Lutherse Kerk | 22:40 – 23:20

Adela Mede explores the interplay between voice and technology with field recordings. She sings in three languages: Slovak, Hungarian and English. Intimate ambient utterances with themes of spiritual growth accompanied by experimental electronics with a wide scope of influences; from minimalism to folklore. Debut album ‘Szabadság’ (February 2022) received positive reviews from media like The Wire, The Quietus, Dazed, Full Moon magazine and Foxy Digitalis.
